Apr 23 - Aug 10    Youth Employment Program
DEADLINE TO APPLY is TUESDAY MARCH 27, 2018! The Taber Youth Employment Program (a project under the Taber & District Community Adult Learning Association, and is funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy Program), provides youth (ages 15 – 30 years inclusive) who are facing obstacles to employment with an opportunity to participate in an 15-week skills development and work experience program within the community of Taber, Alberta. During the program, participants are paid current provincial minimum wage (Alberta). The program will provide participants with a variety of instructional opportunities in the following areas: Motivation and Mentorship Personal Development Self-Reliance and Budgeting Skills Essential Life Skills and Employability Skills Career Assessments and Personal Health and Well Being which will include nutrition Computer and Technology Employment Readiness Workplace and Social Media Etiquette Post-secondary Tours Portfolio Development Supervised Work Experience Please note that underemployment by definition is not considered as an obstacle for employment. It must be combined with other enumerated reasons. At the time of intake/selection, you must be: a) Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) and not presently in school (grade school or post-secondary) b) A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act c) Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations d) Not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits e) In need of assistance in order to overcome one or more employment barriers which include but are not limited to high school non-completion, disability, Aboriginal origin, residence in a rural or remote location, lone (single) parent, visible or ethnic minority, official language minority community language barriers (i.e. Francophone residing outside of Quebec or Anglophone residing in Quebec), recent immigrant, or other.

May 2    McHappy Day
The first Wednesday in May each year, McDonald’s restaurants across the country host McHappy Day, an annual celebration of giving to support RMHC and local charities. On McHappy Day, McDonald’s® will donate $1 from every Big Mac® sandwich, Happy Meal® and hot McCafé® beverage sold in its restaurants to Ronald McDonald Houses and other children’s charities across the country. This year the Taber McDonald’s is supporting the Taber and District Health Foundation. Volunteers will be helping in the restaurant for the lunch and supper hours. Come out and support!

May 5    Kids' Craft Corner - Taber Public Library

May 10    A Better Man Film Screening - Taber Public Library
Join Safe Haven and Kala Beers from Lethbridge Family Services to discuss identifying boundaries and how to communicate them within relationships. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn some practical skills for yourself, and to pass on to others. FILM How one woman's journey of healing is changing the way we talk about domestic violence "A Better Man" offers a fresh and nuanced look at the healing and revelation that can happen for everyone involved when men take responsibility for their abuse. It also empowers audience members to play new roles in challenging domestic violence, whether it’s in their own relationships or as part of a broader movement for social change. May 26    Taber reduce reuse recycle roundup
Do you have items you want to get rid of but don’t have the time to do a yard sale or take to local charity? Participate in this event! Leave good useable items out on your front yard for others to take! OR, If you are in need of items, you can take items you need! Taber Reduce Reuse Recycle Roundup first event is set for Saturday May 26. Tentative time frame 9am-1pm. It is your discretion to leave items longer. Please make your items clearly distinguishable as the items that are free! If you are looking for items, PLEASE be respectful of people’s property and do not leave a mess. Suggestion is to Carry your own boxes or bags. This is trial run, if it goes well and good feedback from The community at large, we may do more while the weather permits!
